October 30th marks National Publicist Day, and it’s one we’d like to take the time to acknowledge. If you’ve ever worked in or around communications or marketing (which, if you’re in our network and reading this, you likely have!), you know just how much heart, hustle, and strategy goes into this work.
Publicists are the invisible force behind so many of the stories that shape how we see brands, leaders, and companies. They’re crisis managers, relationship builders, creative thinkers, and calm voices in chaotic moments. They know how to take complex messages and make them land with clarity and impact.
The first “press release” was sent on this day back in 1906, a statement issued by Ivy Lee for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Fast forward to today, and the tools have changed, but the essence of the job hasn’t: helping organizations show up authentically, thoughtfully, and with purpose.
In our world of executive search, we see firsthand how essential strong communicators and publicists are to an organization’s reputation and success. The best ones don’t just tell stories, they shape them. They influence perception, inspire trust, and build lasting connections between brands and audiences.
So today, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate the people behind the headlines, the publicists, PR pros, and communications strategists who keep the stories moving, often without ever taking the spotlight themselves.
If you work with one, send a quick thank you. If you are one, take a moment to appreciate the impact you make every single day.
Happy National Publicist Day to the storytellers who make it all happen.
